Nomen omen by Marta Kisiel My rating: 4 of 5 stars Powoli, powoli chyba zacznę się bardziej przekonywać do audiobooków. Naprawdę fajnie się bawiłam przy tej książce, nawet jeśli musiałam zaczynać dwa razy, bo zapomniałam co było na początku :) Jakiś czas temu zaczęłam słuchać tej opowieści, ale na jakiś czas ją odłożyłam i niedawno do niej wróciłam. Słyszałam o Marcie Kisiel co nieco, ale ja generalnie podchodzę do polskiej literatury jak pies do jeża. No i kisiel kiepsko mi się kojarzy. Chciałam jednak czegoś lekkiego do posłuchania, opis w sklepie mnie zachęcił, no i jakoś tak mi się kupiła. Historia rudej i całkiem rosłej Salomei, która wprost z prowincji w górach trafia do mrocznego domostwa we Wrocławia. Właścicielki mnożą się w oczach, lokatorów i gości przybywa, a nad wszystkim czuwa niezmiernie rezolutna papuga. No dobra, może nie całkiem czuwa, ale na pewno pilnuje swoich wafelków ;) Historia powoli się rozkręca, komplikuje i robi się nawet ...

Drogi święty Mikołaju by Natasza Socha My rating: 3 of 5 stars 3,5* - na 4 ciut za mało, ale generalnie bardzo sympatyczna lektura, odpowiednie na tą porę roku. Książka przeplata historie kilku par - matki z synem, kochanków biurowych z ich rodzinami oraz pary narzeczonych. Spodziewałam się banalnych historyjek z happy endem, tymczasem postacie są całkiem realne i wcale nie przecukrzone. Poboczne charaktery potraktowane są nieco po macoszemu i nie ma w nich wiele treści, ale da się to przeżyć. Mam wrażenie, że zakończenie przyszło odrobinę za szybko, ale generalnie skleiło całość. Undiscovered Country #1 by Charles Soule My rating: 5 of 5 stars Wow, I didn't expect it to be so good and so messed up. It's like Mad Max meets Hunger Games, Alien, and who knows what else. The Best Moment Of Your Life by Lonely Planet My rating: 4 of 5 stars It's a little bit difficult to review this book, as it's not really a book you read, but more of a coffee table book. It's something that you mostly look at. The pictures are stunning. Some of them made me want to teleport to that very spot then and there. It's a book filled with short descriptions of places and events that made people experience something amazing, something else. What stroke me in this book is the fact that most of those described experiences are not wheelchair accessible. It's my point of view, as a wheelchair user, so not sure if anyone else would have thought about it. Still, it's an interesting collection of short stories - or rather descriptions - written by people, who experienced something important in their lives, during their travels. AFTERLIFT #1 (of 5) by Chip Zdarsky My rating: 5 of 5 stars I mean OMG! This is such a fun read! I saw it on Comixology and thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did! I love how this young Chinese driver meets a new, slightly strange client and then things go awkward. I like how it's drawn and I totally love the story. This first volume is awesome and I look forward to more of this. Plus it gives me a slight Lucifer's vibe, which is very welcome, especially now, between the seasons. Rivers of London: The Fey and The Furious #1 by Ben Aaronovitch My rating: 4 of 5 stars Amazon made my day yesterday by notifying me about new Rivers of London comic :) So I got it and read it right away. I won't repeat myself with all the praise for those books, I'll just say it will be another great history. Might be quite intense, too. Fables, Vol. 1: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham My rating: 4 of 5 stars Somehow I've never encountered those stories before, but I definitely find them a good read. All the Fables are mixed up and it's truly fun read. I might not be the biggest fan of the drawing style, but the story makes up for it. My favourite character is definitely Bigby and I'll be looking forward to reading more about him. The story itself is about missing Fable and all the process of finding out what happened to her. Detective is quite special, a bit like Colombo. The whole thing is good stuff, worth a read. View all my reviews

Przebudzenie Lewiatana. Tom I by James S.A. Corey My rating: 3 of 5 stars Przyznam, że ta książka szła mi dość opornie. Nie jest to opowieść najwyższych lotów, a niektóre wątki są lekko drętwe. Właściwie nie wiem, czy to książka dla dorosłych, czy YA - odnosiłam wrażenie infantylności całej tej historii. Mamy tu policjanta/ex-policjanta z depresją, kapitana statku, który nie jest zbyt dojrzały emocjonalnie i ex-wojskowego, który chyba ma być kimś w rodzaju father-figure. Co z tego wynika? Kosmiczne flaki z olejem. Ciągnie się ta historia okrutnie. Chwilami jakby się rozpędzała, ale to tylko złudzenie, bo hamuje niemal momentalnie. Z drugiej strony coś mnie przy tej książce trzymało i nie mogłam jej porzucić. Może to tylko moje wrodzone przekonanie, że książki należy czytać od początku, choćby to było męczące ;) Trochę mi ta opowieść przypominała Illuminae , ale w gorszym, wolniejszym wydaniu. Właściwie nie potrafię tej opowieści ocenić konkretnie - n...

Miasteczko zbrodni. Dlaczego zginęła Iwona Cygan? by Monika Góra My rating: 2 of 5 stars Dwie, może dwie i pół gwiazdki. Szok i niedowierzanie, bo wszędzie zachwyty. A ja się nie zachwyciłam. Ba, ja się z lekka wynudziłam i okrutnie się męczyłam w trakcie czytania. Sama historia okropna - cała ta zbrodnia i jej otoczka jest po prostu złem. Całe to matactwo, kłamstwa, kolejne dziwne śmierci powodują kręcenie głową z niedowierzaniem. Jednak słabo się to czyta, trochę jak książkę telefoniczną - nazwiska, ksywki, miejsca, daty. Mam wrażenie, że autorka miota się pomiędzy chęcią napisania reportażu a chęcią pyknięcia powieści kryminalnej. Dodam, że nie oczekiwałam definitywnej odpowiedzi na tytułowe pytanie, ale na końcu książki wiedziałam niewiele więcej niż na początku. Równie dobrze mogłam sobie darować całość. View all my reviews

Fireproof by Alex Kava My rating: 2 of 5 stars It's definitely not a superb book, but it's a fun Summer read. I have never read any other books by Alex Kava before, so wasn't sure what to expect. I mean I've realised it's more of a quick read, nothing deep and I was quite right. It's the tenth book in a series, but it can be read as a solo novel. The little background is provided and it's enough in my opinion. The story in the book is pretty simple - mysterious fires, murders and emotionally complicated, but brave FBI agent. Oh and there's this fame-hungry journalist, who will do anything to get attention. You can guess the rest, cause I did pretty quickly. Explanations in the book are quite short and obvious. Characters are pretty flat. Still, it was fun, so 2.5 stars is a decent rating. View all my reviews

Wszystkie boże dzieci tańczą by Haruki Murakami My rating: 3 of 5 stars Mam jakiś problem ostatnio - czego bym nie czytała, coś mi nie pasuje. Sam fakt, że to Murakami, sprawia, że książka dostaje gwiazdkę, a reszta to zasługa treści. Jak widać po mojej ocenie - tutaj nie do końca coś zagrało. Nie przepadam za opowiadaniami jakoś szczególnie, więc może to to. Wszystkie opowiadania łączy trzęsienie ziemii w Kobe, które się przewija w tle. Ma jakieś znaczenie, ale trudno powiedzieć jakie dokładnie. Może chodzi tu o swego rodzaju melancholię, problemy rodzinne, nie zamknięte historie z przeszłości? Historie, jak to u Murakamiego, są nie całkiem realne, trochę jakby ze snu. Podobało mi się na tyle, że czytanie było przyjemne, ale niestety nie zachwyciłam się. View all my reviews

Lethal White by Robert Galbraith My rating: 3 of 5 stars I have a problem with this book. I was hyped to read it, so I've started it and rather quickly got tired. The story was going on and on and on and... Honestly, I didn't think it will take me so long. In the last couple of weeks I've picked it up again and it went pretty quickly. I still have issues with the story - too long, too many spare details, no real threads and suddenly boom! Everything is being explained in two short chapters. Why? For me, it has ruined the whole previously built suspense. Also, Strike and Robin - there is a whole lot of chemistry between them, so I was hoping for something more to happen. Especially after the previous book. Well, nothing really happened, so I'm not happy. Overall, I liked this book, but it definitely isn't the best one in the series. Hoping to see number five come out soon, as Lethal White left too many questions open. ...

Jestem żoną szejka by Laila Shukri My rating: 3 of 5 stars Nie czytam takich historii, ale ktoś mi tą książkę polecił, więc poszukałam jej na Legimi. Ściągnęłam i okazało się, że to audiobook. Nie lubię, ale uznałam, że spróbuję. Udało mi się przez nią przebrnąć, ale mam mieszane uczucia. Od strony słuchacza - głos lektorki jest fajny, przyjemny dla ucha, ale ma dziwne problemy z wyrażaniem emocji, które czyta. Np. krzyk bohaterki przedstawia jako niemal erotyczne jęknięcie. Interpretacja dialogów męża bohaterki to już w ogóle dramat. Jakby ktoś udawał pana z wąsem z Misia. Jeśli chodzi o historię opowiedzianą przez autorkę, która jest jej autobiografią właściwie, to... Nie rozumiem. To znaczy rozumiem, że młoda kobieta może się zakochać w facecie, który spełnia każdą jej zachciankę. Rozumiem, że kasa zrobiła na niej wrażenie. Naprawdę wiele jestem w stanie zrozumieć, ale uderza mnie jakiś rodzaj hipokryzji, który przebija przez opowieści autorki. Z ...

Rebel Cats! Brave Tales of Feisty Felines by Kimberlie Hamilton My rating: 4 of 5 stars It's an adorable book, full of stories of cats, who were or are famous in some way. Some of the stories are quite crazy - like the ones with cats, who traveled the world on the ships or planes, often by an accident. Other cats are brave and fight not only for themselves but also for their humans. I already knew that cats are our overlords, but I didn't know so many rulers actually loved cats. Others were afraid of them, though. I must also add that I'm lucky enough to meet one of the cats mentioned in the book - Doorkins from the Southwark Cathedral in London. She was amazing - queen of the cathedral. And so soft :) Illustrations are also lovely, so big plus for that. P.S. I know it's a kids' book, so what? View all my reviews

The Magicians: Alice's Story by Lilah Sturges My rating: 2 of 5 stars Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with this book. Truth is, Alice is my least favourite character in The Magicians. I saw the show first, so that could have influenced my opinion about the book. Drawings are ok but bit simplistic. There's no magic in them. I also found it hard to look at the characters in the comic. It felt strange, as they were so much different from those in the show. Everyone was more annoying than usual. If someone saw the show - you can skip this book. If you want to read it - be prepared for the fast-forwarded history of Alice. Nothing special, really. View all my reviews

The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy by Jennifer McCartney My rating: 5 of 5 stars I think this is going to be a book, that I'll be giving as a gift to everyone :) Not that it's so deep and profound, but because it shows how to live simply. It's also funny and short. Perfect for reading in pieces or as a whole. Illustrations are super cute, too. And there's of course sloth - most adorable role model ever. He lives his life slowly, but that's the point - take your time, be good to yourself, screw what others think. So you know - live slow die whenever. Great stuff! View all my reviews

I Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney My rating: 3 of 5 stars I've waited for this book for quite a while, as I loved the first book by Alice Feeney ( Sometimes I Lie ). I've finally got the book and read it. Well, it's not bad and I have to admit I didn't see the twists coming. It's a pretty quick read (though I've had a small break in the middle), it's pretty gripping, too. It's a story about a little girl, who has grown to be an adult woman, without really losing her inner child. That child has some dark secrets and some dark thoughts invade her mind. She's thrown deep into a very twisted situation, that almost ruins her life. She's a fighter, though. I feel like something is missing in this book. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides My rating: 3 of 5 stars Ostatnio zastanawiałam się, co poczytać, krążyłam po grupach książkowych i podczytywałam opinie. Trafiłam na wątek, w którym wszyscy podniecali się "Pacjentką" - że takie dobre, trzyma w napięciu, a na koniec zaskakuje. Miałam tą książkę ściągniętą, więc stwierdziłam, że czemu nie? No i... Z jednej strony fajne jest to pozostawienie tajemnicy, a z drugiej odrobinę to frustrujące. Koniec książki pozostawia poniekąd otwarte drzwi, które mogłyby poprowadzić do odkrywania dalszych sekretów drogiej siostry Juany. It's hard to rate this book really, as it says a story of a quite incredible project. The author made a promise to keep a promise and he decided that other people could do it, too. This movement has grown and his little project turned out to be something big. I generally like this idea and some of the promises/stories are pretty amazing. People can be amazing if they choose to be. On the other hand, with the honour code and all this positivity, it sounds a bit like some cult or at least coaching group. I'm not a fan of either. Zane: The Wild One by Bronwyn Jameson My rating: 2 of 5 stars *Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book* I don't know what to think about this story. It might have not been my best choice. I'm not super familiar with manga, though I saw some of. I do like the drawings, especially those famous manga eyes. I liked how everything was presented and how well played out. The story, on the other hand... Well, it's the reason I've never liked Harlequin books. The plot is simple and painfully obvious. There's a good girl, bad boy, little town gossip and happy end. I kind of feel stupider after reading this... There's a girl, who just lost her dad (sort of) and she wants to find out what happened. So she and the band of friends are setting out for an adventure into the unknown. Pan na Wisiołach. Mroczne siedlisko by Piotr Kulpa My rating: 3 of 5 stars Moje 3 gwiazdki są bliżej noty 3,8. Nie całkiem 4, ale blisko. Jest to książka, którą trudno mi umieścić w jednym gatunku literackim. Dla mnie jest to coś w rodzaju lekkiego horroru z nutą folkloru i swego rodzaju spirytualizmu. Kompletnie nie spodziewałam się takiej historii. Absolutnie nie twierdzę, że jest to dzieło wybitne, bo chyba nawet do takiego nie aspiruje. Jest to, za to historia fajnie poprowadzona, wystarczająco wciągająca i do tego stopnia intrygująca, że chcę przeczytać przynajmniej drugi tom. Książka opowiada o tym, że wiejskie chaty, odziedziczone po nieznanych dziadkach, lepiej omijać szerokim łukiem. Szczególnie kiedy sąsiadami są podejrzani starcy i czarujący młody skrzypek, a za przysłowiowym płotem wznosi się ulubiona góra samobójców. Jedyne co mnie lekko drażni w tej historii, to imię syna głównego bohatera - Czaruś. Zupełnie jak mój pies... ;) ...

Contagion by Teri Terry My rating: 4 of 5 stars *Thank you NetGalley and publisher for letting me read this book* I feel strange, as this is a book in a 12+ age range and I've enjoyed it more than I should, probably. I mean I am 12+, but that plus is a pretty big number ;) Either way, this is a well written and fast paced book, which ends with an awful cliffhanger. There's a girl and there's a boy (good "bad boy" type), and there's another girl, who is missing. Add some bad people, a misterious and deadly virus, some love and death of loved ones and you get a good story. The writing style is light and easy to read, with a lot of dialogues. I'm giving it 4 stars, but it's more like 3.8 ;) The story feels like something you've already read or seen, but it's still a fun read. Now I'm waiting for the second book! View all my reviews

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley My rating: 4 of 5 stars Długo zabierałam się do tej książki, chyba za długo. Chociaż może nie. Trzeba chyba mieć odpowiednią dojrzałość, żeby to przeczytać i przetrawić. Oraz zrozumieć. Czy ja zrozumiałam? Kurcze, sama nie wiem. Nie spodziewałam się, że mnie ta książka poruszy w sposób, którego nie potrafię określić. Świat z powieści jest straszny. Jest sztuczny i niepokojąco odrealniony. W książce mamy rok 2400-któryś. Mniemam, że do tej pory ludzkość, jaką znamy szybciej się wybije, niż zawiąże globalny sojusz. Sama nie wiem co gorsze - przyszłość post-apo, czy taka odmóżdżona? Mimo wszystko, brałabym tą pierwszą. Łatwo zgadnąć dlaczego. Emocje są ważne, nawet jeśli czasem (ok, często) łykamy coś na ustabilizowanie nastroju, na znieczulenie, to jednak nie jest to słodki sen, indukowany Somą, która pozwala nie tylko na odrealnione życie, ale i na całkowicie nieświadomą śmierć (zwykle powodowaną przedawkowaaniem piguł...

Dachołazy by Katherine Rundell My rating: 3 of 5 stars Wow, I can't believe it took me a year to finish 150's pages book. I knew it's been a while, but I didn't realize it's been a year. That's strange because the story told in the book is nice and there's a bit of magic in it. Sophie is a unique child, raised by a unique adult. Having childhood like that would be great - books everywhere, music and London :) But Sophie misses her mom, even though they've never met. When the social services threaten Sophie's and Charles' family, they go on a journey. First, they investigate through official channels, but later Sophie goes for her own adventure, meeting incredible people on the way. It's a charming little book and I wouldn't mind reading some more about the adventures of the whole crew. View all my reviews

Witajcie w raju. Reportaże o przemyśle turystycznym by Jennie Dielemans My rating: 2 of 5 stars Szczerze mówiąc jest to książka, która nie wnosi niczego nowego. Powtarza fakty znane z czasopism podróżniczych i telewizji. Pokazuje, tak naprawdę, tylko dwa miejsca, dwa regiony, mimo, że autorka niby taka podróżniczka. Podsumwoanie całości nie powala, a całość jest na poziomie wyprawki na zaliczenie na jakimś licencjacie. Czyta się to szybko, co jest jedyną zaletą. Jeśli autorka chciała przestrzec przed ciemną stroną biznesu turystycznego i zachęcić do zastanowienia nad środowiskowymi kosztami podróży, to nie bardzo jej wyszło. W rodzinie ojca mego by Marcin Wójcik My rating: 3 of 5 stars Dałabym ten książce 3,5 gwiazdki, ale na GR nie ma połówek ;) Byłam bardzo ciekawa tej książki, więc wzięłam się za nią z zapałem. Z początku chciałam sobie notować najciekawsze fragmenty, jednak doszam do wniosku, że byłoby tego za dużo. Niemal każda strona przynosi informacje, które powodują opad szczęki i uniesienie brwi. Czyta się tą książkę jak paranoiczną dystopię, w której rzeczywistość i logika traktowane są jak wróg, którego należy zniszczyć za wszelką cenę. Przedsiębiorczy Ojciec Dyrektor potrafił w jakiś niewyobrażalny sposób urządzić się w Polsce (nie tylko w Toruniu) i owinąć sobie wokół palca tysiące (setki tysięcy) ludzi. W tym wysoko postawione postacie Kościoła i Rządu. Niemniej to ci szeregowi słuchacze są najgroźniejszą bronią imperium Rydzyka. To oni bezrefleksyjnie łykają "prawdę" mediów Ojca Dyrektora i negują wszystko inne. Z książki wyniosłam jeszcze głębs...

The story itself it's bit odd, slightly magical, spiritual, but it lacks something I can't exactly put my finger on. Drawings are sometimes all right and sometimes they are too chaotic. The Atlantis Plague by A.G. Riddle My rating: 3 of 5 stars It's the second book in the Atlantis Trilogy, where we still follow the adventures of Kate, David and Dorian + few others old and new characters. The story still revolves around the plague and the cure, but I feel like the first book had better flow. There was more action. This second book is less action-packed, but it gives a lot of background for Kate, David and Dorian. They are all connected more than they could imagine. It took me a while to finish this book, as there are many long passages about their past and about the history of places they visited. I'm quite curious about how will the story unfold, so I guess time for book 3 :) View all my reviews
