For me, this book is something between 2 and 3 stars. It's hard to rate this book really, as it says a story of a quite incredible project. The author made a promise to keep a promise and he decided that other people could do it, too. This movement has grown and his little project turned out to be something big. I generally like this idea and some of the promises/stories are pretty amazing. People can be amazing if they choose to be.
On the other hand, with the honour code and all this positivity, it sounds a bit like some cult or at least coaching group. I'm not a fan of either. Sometimes their stories and points of the honour code feel like reading AA meeting. I can't say I don't agree with some of those things.
Since it was an ARC, pdf was ok and included all the photos, unfortunately, I didn't read it in time. The file I've had on Kindle lacked many pictures, but there was a text ;)
This book might be a good place to start or inspiration for doing something for others.

The Little Book of Sloth Philosophy by Jennifer McCartney My rating: 5 of 5 stars I think this is going to be a book, that I'll be giving as a gift to everyone :) Not that it's so deep and profound, but because it shows how to live simply. It's also funny and short. Perfect for reading in pieces or as a whole. Illustrations are super cute, too. And there's of course sloth - most adorable role model ever. He lives his life slowly, but that's the point - take your time, be good to yourself, screw what others think. So you know - live slow die whenever. Great stuff! View all my reviews

Pill by Robert Bennett My rating: 5 of 5 stars *I have received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher" I've requested this book, thinking that it's about how pills were created. It has turned out that it's something else, something so much better! The author tells the story of the Pill, the One that we pop every day (at least once), to be happy. Or chill, or fall asleep, or whatever. It's our new religion - psychopharmacology. Robert Bennett has a bit odd way of telling this story - he's showing us how the meds work through a series of examples: literature and movies mostly. It can be slightly annoying at times, but overall it makes the book easier to read. I truly enjoyed how the author is telling the story and how he's asking the questions about our reality/society. It's a book placed in the USA, but I believe it could be about any given civilised country. Psychotropic meds are gaining its popularity,...
